Eastside Utility District's Richard Davis has been named the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts (TAUD) Water Treatment Operator of the Year. The award was presented during the 2026 Operator Expo in Lebanon, Tennessee, recognizing his contributions to the water industry.

Richard Davis began his career with Eastside Utility District in 1993 during the restoration of the Donald Stafford Water Treatment Plant. Originally constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and dormant for nearly two decades, the facility required extensive renovation before returning to service. Davis was part of the effort to restore the plant, which today provides drinking water to more than 26,000 customers across Hamilton and Bradley Counties.

Promoted to Chief Operator in 2014, Davis has spent much of his career sharing his knowledge with others entering the profession. He has trained more than ten water treatment operators, all of whom successfully passed the Water Treatment Grade 4 certification exam on their first attempt.

Eastside Utility District congratulates Richard Davis on this recognition and thanks him for his years of service to the utility, its customers, and the water industry.

Davis's impact extends well beyond the treatment plant. In addition to his operational responsibilities, he has supported TAUD Region 10 activities hosted at Eastside Utility District by assisting with technical preparation, coordinating logistics, and encouraging participation from neighboring utilities. He has also encouraged local student participation and supported engagement opportunities for students interested in the water industry. In addition, he has represented Eastside Utility District in TAUD's Best Drinking Water Competition.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, Davis is also committed to serving the community. He actively supports charitable initiatives and has been a consistent donor to the Toys for Tots program during the holiday season.

The Water Treatment Operator of the Year award is presented to certified operators who demonstrate exceptional dedication to their utility and profession. Davis's 32 years of service to Eastside Utility District, commitment to operator training, involvement in industry activities, and lasting impact on future generations of water treatment operators were among the qualities recognized through this year's award.
